What is a Prosthodontist?

Prosthodontics is one of the nine dental specialties recognized by the Canadian Dental Association and the American Dental Association; Prosthodontist is the only specialist that trains exclusively to provide esthetic, reconstructive, and implant dentistry. Prosthodontists have three years of additional full time university based training beyond that of General Dentists in areas of cosmetic and restorative dentistry that includes: fillings, dentures, veneers, crowns, bridges, splints/nightguards, prosthesis for maxillofacial defects, implants and cosmetic dentistry.

Prosthodontists are recognized as the diagnosis and treatment planning experts. Identification of the cause of oral deterioration is a key element to any dental treatment in order to stop the progression of disease, minimize its impact, develop an effective treatment strategy and prevent future recurrence of disease.
